Microchipping Regulations - Law in England
All Cats older than 5 months (20 weeks) need to be microchipped.
All Dogs older than 2 months (8 weeks) need to be microchipped.
Any animal brought into England must be microchipped within 30 days of entry.
Details that, by Law, need to be recorded on the microchip;
- Full name and address of keeper
- Keeper's telephone number
- If the keeper is also the breeder; breeder's licence number and name of local authority which issues the licence
- Original name or identification number of the animal
- Sex of the animal
- Breed of the animal
- Colour of the animal
- Animal's date of birth
- The microchip number
The keeper of the animal is;
- For Assistance dogs, training or working, it is the body responsible for the dogs training and allocation.
After the dog has ceased working, it is the person with whom it resides.
- A puppy which has not left it's mother, it is the owner of the puppy's mother.
- A Cat or Dog not specified above, it is the person with whom the animal normally resides.
It is your responsibility to make sure your pet's microchip is registered and that the details are kept up to date.
