Acupuncture

Our Vet Jenny has an interest in acupuncture and the chronic pain management of your pets.

Acupuncture involves inserting very fine needles at strategic places around the body to stimulate sensory nerves, resulting in the body releasing pain relieving endorphins and neurotransmitters that can help to down regulate chronic pain.

It is a useful treatment primarily for pain but can also help wound healing and in some cases of inflammatory bowel disease or cystitis.

Most animals tolerate the needles very well and often we find that they can become very relaxed and sleepy during or after acupuncture.

Occasionally if the muscles are very tight or sore, patients can find it a little uncomfortable but adjustments can be made in these instances.

It may take several sessions to see the full effect so we would usually recommend weekly sessions for the first 4-6 weeks and then space treatments out depending on each individual pet's needs.
